STRUCTURE AND FORMAT OF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS
GUIDELINES FOR TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS
PREAMBLE
This document provides clear guidelines for the Club’s Tournament Directors for Men’s and Women’s Club Championship events. It also aims to ensure that there is consistency from season to season as well as to provide a method by which structure and/or format may be changed.
BACKGROUND
- The structure and format of each of the Club’s championship events for its male and female full members (and registered juniors) shall be the same as those conducted by Bowls Tasmania South (BTS), as described in Section 2 (Conditions of Play for BTS Championships) the Bowls Tasmania South, Conditions of Play for Domestic Competitions
- The structure and format of Club championship events in which its male and female full members (and registered juniors) may compete, for which no equivalent BTS championship event exists, shall be determined by the Board of Management of the Club.
COMPETITION STRUCTURE
- A minimum of three (3) entries shall be required before a particular Club men’s or women’s event will proceed, in which case it shall be conducted as sectional play, with each player (singles) or team (in a team event) playing each other as in a round robin.
- Scoring in sectional play will allocate three (3) points for each win, one (1) point for a tie, zero (0) points for a loss.
- The winner of a Club competition conducted as sectional play will be the player (singles) or team (team event) that accumulates the most points. Where two or more players (singles) or teams (team events) the one with the largest difference between total shots for and total shots against shall be the winner. If the margin remains equal then the total shots for will be divided by the total shots against to determine the percentage. The one with the higher percentage will be declared the winner.
- Where four or more entries are received for a Club championship event it shall be conducted as a knockout draw.
- The draw shall be conducted in such a manner as to ensure that no byes occur in the draw after the first round of competition. The first round will be organised so that the total of competitors remaining is a power of two, and that the second round will have either two, four, eight, or sixteen competitors remaining in the competition.
